Theme
Until recently, there was a major gap in behavioural research between scientists interested in proximate questions about the mechanisms underlying animal behaviour, and scientists interested in ultimate questions on the adaptive value of a given behaviour. But it has been recognised that we need to integrate the two approaches to be able to advance our knowledge on animal behaviour in a significant way. The goal of the workshop is to bring together evolutionary biologists and endocrinologists to discuss the interactions between hormones and behaviour governing cooperative and aggressive behaviour. Key note speakers will give an overview over their field of expertise, and small workshop groups will be formed to discuss in detail how integrative approaches could be developed.
Students will therefore be able to learn about the complexity of an integrative approach but the same develop potential research avenues themselves in collaboration with the invited scientists.
