Theme |
DNA barcoding has been proposed as a tool for species identification using a standard molecular marker. The Barcoding of Life Initiative proposes to barcode all living organisms on Earth and to build a public reference database of barcodes. Significant advances have already been achieved in selected groups (fishes, butterflies). Potential applications of barcoding include taxonomy, diversity assessment, ecology, species management, and diagnostic among others. During the symposium we will present relevant illustrations of barcoding activities and we will critically discuss practical advantages and limitations of this methodology. | |
