Practical course and Minisymposium
LENTIVIRAL VECTORS IN BASIC SCIENCE AND GENE THERAPY
Biochemistry and Fundamental Medicine
Date
Jun 23-27, 2008
Organisers
Prof. Daniel Schümperli, Institute of Cell Biology, University of Bern, Prof. Jean-Luc Dreyer, Department of Medicine, Unit for Biochemistry, University of Fribourg
Site
Institute of Cell Biology, University of Bern
Theme
Lentiviral vectors are attractive vehicles for somatic gene therapy, notably for the CNS and for haemopoietic (stem) cells. They are also widely used in basic biology as gene transfer vectors in cell types that are difficult to transfect by other means. Students of the practical course will learn the construction of vectors, the production and concentration of viral particles, their transfer to animal cells in culture, as well as titre determinations by FACS analysis. They will also have the opportunity of intensive discussions about prepared papers with the speakers of the minisymposium of Thursday, June 26. Moreover various in vivo and in vitro applications, biosafety aspects, and specialised applications will be taught both in the practical course and discussed by speakers at the symposium.
