THE NEW SHAPE OF MITOCHONDRIA
Biochemistry and Fundamental Medicine
Date
Jun 19, 2008
Organisers
Pr F. Assimacopoulos-Jeannet, Pr P. Maechler, and Pr J-C Martinou, (Medical Faculty and Science Faculty, University of Geneva)
Site
Centre Medical Universitaire (CMU)
Theme
Mitochondria are not only the powerhouse of the cell. They are now recognised as central players in a variety of biological processes including apoptosis, ageing, genetic disorders, oxidative stress or signalling. We are living exciting time of mitochondrial research revolution when genetic, structural and metabolic breakthrough meet to reshape mitochondria within the cell. Key players in the field will present new approaches relating structure, functionality and plasticity, as well as modern tools in transgenesis to study mutations targeted to mitochondrial function. Finally, all these aspects will be put in perspective with new avenues in mitochondrial metabolism
